The Arctic Circle trip is a road trip (in 15 person vans) that travels the Dalton Highway (otherwise known as the Haul Road), the only road access to Alaska's North Slope. This highway was built to support the construction and maintenance of the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline. This road starts 89 miles north of Fairbanks, and ends at Dead Horse near the Arctic Ocean. This road has only been open to the public for a few years. If conditions permit, you may get a tour in one of the Pump Stations along the pipeline. You will cross the mighty Yukon River, camp four nights above the Arctic Circle, experience the arctic tundra under the midnight sun, fish for arctic grayling, and cross the Continental Divide at Atigun Pass in the Brooks Range. You may see moose, caribou, Musk Ox, and with a little luck Grizzly bear and wolf. On the last day you will return to Fairbanks to an all-you-can-eat dinner of salmon, ribs, and halibut at the Alaskaland Salmon-bake. This is a unique way to experience the arctic tundra and the Brooks Range of Alaska. |
